Hey Anne, good to see you made it here :D
It's been a couple of years since we last spoke, hope all is well. I've recently had a lot of interest in 31 Squadron SAAF , I'm going to be doing some digging around and such to get some more information published on the site. Always looking for help and info, talking of which where's Rob he's another SAAF bod.
Welcome aboard.

Hello Gary
Which Rob are you referring to? I know a few Robs but the 31 SAAF Rob is Rob W whose uncle,Sgt HJ Woods RAF of 31 SAAF , was killed on the same supply mission as my father disappeared on 12/10/44.

I know him well. Perhaps he's found out all he can about his uncle ?

Yes Mr W is now a member of the "gang" here, he's lurking around somewhere. I assumed you knew each other because he said he was a member of the Alpine 44 "club" and had been to the reunion/memorials etc.

Gary / Anne,

I'm not sure if I should post this stuff here but I'm sure the moderator will move it to wherever it belongs.....

My father was James (Jim) Turner, Service Number 1896378, Air Gunner

He flew in:

Anson I.T.W 03.10.44 to 12.11.44
Wellington A.G.S. Ballah 13.11.44 to 23.12.44
Dakota 76 O.T.U. Aqir 02.01.45 to 21.02.45
Liberator 1675 Sqd Abu0Suir H.C.U. 26.02.45 to 26.03.45
Liberator 34 Sqd S.A.A.F. 01.04.45 to 10.06.45
Liberator 104 Sqd R.A.F. 10.06.45 to 17.01.46
Lancaster 104 Sqd R.A.F. 17.01.46 to 05.04.46
Martinets 203 A.F.S. Chivenor 01.06.48 to 30.10.48

He was discharged on 24.09.50 so I don't know what he was doing between his last log entry and his discharge?

Sadly (being ignorant) I don't know what a Martinet or Anson is (I'm off to do a search no /:o)

Will send photos and stuff to Gary as and when I get round to it. I also Have Jackie's flight log so will get some info from it to post.

Many thanks again

Bill

According to my uncles Flying Log Book he flew with F/S/ Ansell in 178 Squadron (Amendola) where my uncle was the wireless Operator? Is this the same Ansell? (I'm reading his log entry from August 1944)

Regards

Yes it's the only Ansell that he flew with, I have the operations records for the whole of August if you want I'll send you copies of the operations Jackie/John was on in August.
Here is as good a place as any to put the info, I might incorporate it in to one of the other articles on the site at some point.
I.T.W is Initial Training Wing and the Anson was a trainer plane. Which ITW was he at, do you happed to know?
