Hi, amazingly I have been trying to identify this A/C for years! One of my prize possessions is a picture of my Uncle with his crew that flew with 59 Squadron between 44-46. Because no code was visible I had no idea if it was a plane he flew in or one that just happened to be there and they posed next to.
I have tried to insert the picture but it doesn't seem to work for me.. Arggh! Can anyone help?
I can confirm though that he did fly in FL972 on his 3rd operational mission on 27/09/44 (although he recorded it in his logbook incorrectly as FL792). The mission was recorded as Anti U/Boat Patrol - Diverted to Escort floating dock and Tugs 18W.

Thanks for working your magic, Gary, to bring us the images, and thanks to BBRBOB for offering your new old image. It seems that the two photos were taken the same day. Geoff's guess that this is FL972 is the logical best hope. It's a real shame Dugan -- the original poster - didn't return to provide more detail, such as things I suggested in my posting from ages ago. Unless more details come forth, we just won't get an answer.
I'm wondering, BBRBOB, does your photo have any info written on the reverse, or in a photo album as a caption?
I don't have the 59 Sqn Operations Record Book to see if aircraft E can be matched up to FL972. (My focus is mostly on Far East RAF Libs.)
I also did a comparison between the crews in the two different photos, and I feel confident in saying that they are different crews. Hopefully the comparison image will post at a reasonable size for studying.
